Stop and Listen.

Let nature’s voice be heard. Wherever you are.

Welcome to Dawn Chorus, the first Citizen Science and Arts project that invites people around the world to collect bird songs: for biodiversity research, for arts, and for building awareness around the beauty of the natural world and the global threats to nature.

Each and every recording represents a small piece of a larger puzzle. With your help, we can put together this puzzle, and document biodiversity through sound, to study how it changes in the future.  At the same time, by drawing your attention to the wonderful natural phenomenon of the Dawn Chorus we hope to prime your senses in an emotional way, and awaken your creativity.

Let’s listen to the voice of nature, let’s record it – and let’s make it heard!

Click the following pages to find out what Dawn Chorus is all about, and how you can best support us.

Dawn Chorus is a project by BIOTOPIA Naturkundemuseum Bayern and the Landesbund für Vogelschutz (LBV), co-initiated by BIOTOPIA Naturkundemuseum Bayern and the Foundation Arts and Nature (Stiftung Kunst und Natur).

Once again, our scientific data collection period will take place between 1st and 31st of May. Join us! Every record counts.

The easiest way to take part is by using your smartphone and our Dawn Chorus app. This allows you to make and upload high-quality, scientifically standardized recordings, but you can also like records, add recognised bird species, explore bird concerts around the world, and even create art! Learn more about how to take part and about the app here.

The Dawn Chorus app is available for free for Android and iOS:

If you don’t have a smartphone or tablet, or would rather make a recording using your own specialised equipment you can still use the website upload form. We welcome recordings outside of the scientific collection period in May.
