I don’t have an email address. Can I still participate? Of course. You can use a shared email address and create a shared Dawn Chorus account, e.g. using your class email address. Alternatively, you can ask your parents to help you.
I don’t have my own smartphone or tablet. Can I still participate?
If available, use your school tablets or get together in small groups to make recordings together.
I don’t have mobile data/I don’t have reception here.
That’s okay. You don’t have to spend money to upload your recordings via mobile data. You can simply save your recording in the app and upload it later, for example when you are back home or at school and have WiFi.
I am uncomfortable creating an account for data protection reasons. Can I still participate?
For security reasons, we require an email address and a username so that we can assign the recordings and block them if necessary. This data will not be made publicly visible. We only use the data for scientific research or artistic transformation of bird songs and not for marketing purposes. Any data shared with researchers or artists is always anonymised (without name and email address). If this is not sufficient for you, you can also contribute recordings without the app, but this is a little more complicated. Instructions for this can be found here.
